Through a collaboration between REEF, the Cayman Island Department of the Environment, and Oregon State University, the Grouper Moon project, started in April 2008, continues. It is deep water spawning time, and project leader Phil Bush recently announced that divers plan to swim down 60 meters to tag spawning groupers, to better keep track of their movements and see if they survive until the next spawning season. This way they can better decide which spawning areas must be protected.
